Our Chef
Cathy Conway is the founder and executive chef of Avalon Catering, one of the premier catering firms in metro Atlanta. Cathy attended the University of Georgia and The Culinary Institute of America. She is involved in a number of organizations including:
Georgia Organics
International Special Events Society
Les Dames d'Escoffier
Slow Foods
The International Catering Association
National Association of Women Business Owners
Cathy’s passion for local foods began in France. She had an experience with a white peach in Provence that changed her relationship with food. Savoring the fruit, her epiphany came: her indescribably delicious peach had come from a nearby farm. With that, her passion for local food was born.
Because of this genuine interest in local foods, Cathy uses local ingredients whenever possible, writes a biannual newsletter profiling local farmers, and serves as an Atlanta drop off point for the CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) run by Moore Farms and Friends a network of local farmers. Cathy is heavily involved in promoting and participating in local events and has organized and appeared in chef demonstrations at the Cook’s Warehouse, the Morningside Farmer’s Market, the Georgia Organics Annual Conference and several nearby farms. Additionally, Cathy has been active in the local movement for sustainable agriculture and is co-chairing Les Dames d'Escoffier’s Green Tables Initiatives.
In addition to fostering a passion for incredible food, she has also focused many years and great effort into nurturing relationships with local and national event vendors. With these relationships, Cathy is able to pull from a wealth of talent and knowledge to create events for her clients that are executed flawlessly and exceed expectations.
With over 15 years in the Atlanta Catering scene, Cathy brings to the table not only great food, but a fresh eye to special event possibilities.
So. Let's eat!
